(24-25 OCTOBER 2009) The Montreal Drumfest

The 17th annual Montreal DrumFest was once again held at the Pierre-Mercure Hall where drummers from all over Canada and the US flock to see the upcoming stars and legends of drumming perform. Representing DW Pedals and Hardware were Steve Smith, who performed a duet and masterclass of Indian rhythms with Pete Lockett, and Cindy Blackman, who stunned the audience with her intense speed and musical finesse. Flying the Gon Bops and PDP flags were Daniel De Los Reyes and Luisito Quintero. Daniel and Luisito blasted out Afro-Cuban rhythms between an array of congas, cajons, bongos, hand percussion and drumset. Closing the show on a trio of DW kits were Brooks Wackerman, Chad Wackerman and John Wackerman. The brothers brought the house down with their original compositions for three drumsets and individual solos mixed throughout. An incredible ending to another fantastic DrumFest.
